KSU Student Staff 2025/2026
Kent Students' Union (KSU) runs two Coop franchise stores, Woody's Bar, Library Cafe, and The Venue on the Canterbury campus. below is a description of each of our outlets.
The Coop
The main store is situated in the centre of campus. The smaller store is situated in the KSU building in the Park Wood area of campus. Our stores have the same look and feel of a normal Co-op store, however the business is owned and run by KSU with support from the Co-operative Group. This enables us to put money back into students’ pockets by employing over 100 Kent students each year as well as providing a vital service to over 20,000 University of Kent students and staff.
KSU also runs the Kent Clothing store which is also situated in the KSU building in the Park Wood area of campus.
Staff responsibilities will include replenishment, serving on checkouts, delivering great customer service in line with the values of Co-op and KSU, date code control, keeping our stores clean and tidy. There will also be opportunities to be trained in our ‘In Store Bakery’ where we bake a range of products and also cook and prepare our hot food options.
Staff will be expected to complete in store and online training provided by the KSU and Co-op.
Woody's Bar
In September 2018 we launched a £3m new Student's Union building at Parkwood. The Parkwood building is a significant enhancement to the largest student accommodation area on campus, and boasts a 300 capacity bar/cafe offering a great coffee and food offer with a wide range of student events from quizzes to K-pop karaoke and showing all major sports fixtures. The Parkwood building also hosts a Co-op convenience shop with a broad range of fresh food, hot grab and go food and beverages, a social/study space to relax, meet and make friends, an IT/study hub for students and two dance studios/student activity spaces to support our 250 sports clubs and societies engage with their members.
KSU's Licensed Trade and Catering Department is one of the Union's largest customer-facing departments and runs 3 outlets: The Library Cafe, Woody's and The Venue across the Canterbury campus. We are dedicated to offering students value for money, entertainment and a safe environment to socialise and study in.
Library Cafe
The Library is the bustling hub of the University with students meeting here to study or simply meeting with friends to hang out. At the heart of this hub lies the very popular Library Cafe. You will be preparing and serving, some might say, the finest coffee on campus!
New staff will be valued members of the Library Cafe team, responsible for excelling in customer satisfaction in all areas of the outlet whilst ensuring that all food safety and health and safety standards are adhered too. They must be a self-motivated, highly driven and flexible individual who works well in a team or on their own accord. New staff will be required to work a minimum of two shifts per week, and evening and weekend work will be required as part of their shift pattern.
The Venue
The Venue is KSU's nightclub which plays host to a wide range of artists and events across the academic year including, Dick and Dom, Shy FX and Andy C (just to name a few). It first opened in 1998 and has continued to improve and remain KSU's largest Licenced Trade outlet. The Venue it home to the Wednesday night with our very own Vensday as well as other Weekly nights covering all music genres.
